[Keirean in only eats after Kamukura does.

To be honest he's quite exhausted, but he cleans things away before finally settling down next to Kamukura.]

How are you feeling?

[a pause]

Sorry.

[another pause. like he doesn't know what to say after that? this is a mess and he hates how useless he is.]

Don't.

[He runs a hand trough his hair than sighs, awkwardly reaching out to tug Kamulura against his side.]

You're hurt because of me in the first place. Don't think about it and just rest.

I wanted to be able to help you, this time...

[as opposed to what time? oh well he's still going.]

It's frustrating.

[but he leans against Keirean bonelessly.]

Get better and do my paperwork when we return.

[It's a joke but he keeps his arm around Kamukura, setting his sword by his side, handle under his palm, ready.]

I won't be able to stay awake tonight. Sleep against me, I'll protect you.

[It's frustrating, getting old. In his prime a few days awake... he could have managed that easily. Now it's a struggle keeping his eyelids open. At least if Kamukura is against him he can wake and defend him in the same moment.]

[he sighs softly, nearly a laugh.]

I will do however much paperwork you want.

[he snuggles a little closer, careful not to hinder Keirean's sword arm. part of him wants to offer to keep watch but he knows trying would only worsen his condition, and he can't make this situation worse than it is out of selfishness.

at least like this, he gets to have Keirean hold him.]

[It's warmer this way too. Snuggled together. It might not be too comfortable under the circumstances but Kamukura does get to have Keirean fall asleep holding him close with one arm.]

[HE'LL TAKE WHAT HE CAN FUCKING GET.

he falls asleep not long after, sleeping more restfully than should really be possible in this situation.]

[Some time in the night Keirean's instincts wake him, and he lashes out with his sword, arm tightening around Kamukura.

A monster snake's head landa in front of them, the body dropping. And Keirean's heart races as he drops the sword and feels over Kamukura's body for bites.]

[Normally Kamukura's instincts would have woken him as well, but his trust of Kierean is so absolute that he doesn't so much as come close to stirring until the danger is past. It's the warm hands that wake him.]

Mmn?

[he's uninjured, at least]

[Shaking a little from adrenaline Keirean drops his face to Kamukura's hair, holding him tighter.]

Nothing. Go back to sleep.

[he hesitates, parsing the way kierean is trembling and the smell of fresh blood.

then he starts carefully feeling out the older man, checking HIM for injuries.]

Ah... I'm alright.

[He has some hella nice muscles though.]

[oh he knows and appreciates

he pauses, then decides to trust him. lets his hands slide to Keirean's lower back and just pat him gently. attempted soothe!]

You did well.

[A long beat.

Is he being.... praised??? That's....

When was the last time someone praised him like that? ...? His wife?

It's weird. A little embarrassing but kind of nice.

He doesn't know what to say to it, finally repeating from earlier, in a more gruff way ]

Go back to sleep.

Right, understood...

[he settles himself cozily against him again. cooperative patient!!]

[The rest of the night is uneventful. Keirean sleep well but it's enough to get by. The next day is pretty similar to the first. Carrying Kamukura until evening, finding water on the way.

This time though, near sunset they luck upon a hunters lodge. Unoccupied but clearly stocked, with active anti-monster wards. A clean well, a tiny one room building with fireplace and bed... basically luxury. A stable on the side for the horse...]

[It's a relief. The toll on Keirean was one thing but he was growing alarmed for Kamukura.]

What luck...

[genuinely. he knows his condition would only worsen overall of they didn't find a real place for him to recover, so this is a hugely lucky break. even just from the day's travels he's muchmore feverish than he is when they woke.]

[Finding a hidden key and setting Kamukura inside, even Keirean looks visibly relieved.]

Rest here. I'll take care of the horse and find food. Then I'll draw a bath after dinner.

All right. Stay safe.

[he's going to totter around making the place more livable, like at least getting out the bedding even though he can't really make the bed in his condition.]

[He returns in a bit with game and wild vegetables. This time, with a pot and basic stains in the lodge, food is pretty decent. Though he keeps looking at Kamukura worriedly.]

[He's wiped the fuck out, and tries not to push himself too much in front of Keirean at least. But he definitely overdid it before he got back.]

[He's gotten used to touch, carrying Kamukura for two days. He reaches over to touch his forehead, frowning.]

I'll help you bathe, then you sleep.

[deer in the headlights look!!

he's gotten used to contact but NAKED contact is a dangerous road, even if he's the only one naked.]

[definitely can't bathe alone, fuck. his hair alone is a goddamb nightmare that might just need to be chopped off at this point.]

You'll feel much better with a bath.

[He's getting up to clean up, and find the tub. He'll need to boil water to fill it so Kamukura has a little time to prepare his heart.]
