It shouldn't. But if you feel strange then say so. Stubbornness isn't a good quality in the injured.

[He sits on the edge of the bed, looking at Kamukura with a faint frown.]

It's easy to forget how young you are.... my son would have been about your age.

[That catches him off guard. He doesn't know that about Kierean, and that's throwing him off.]

It's not so strange I'd think of him here. A long time ago, I was sent here on another mission. Orphan and kidnapped children were being experimented on, cruelly, by a vile group.

[His fist clenches than relaxes.]

We rescued them all, but one boy was especially badly hurt. I cared for him here. Back then... my daughter was a little younger than him, and my wife.... was still alive. I grew so fond of the boy, I started thinking of him as a son. I wrote and asked her...

We were planning to adopt him when I brought him home. I wanted to see him grow up strong and happy. He deserved to be cherished. To experience a good home. To have a sister to spoil and mother to wipe his tears...

I apologize for making you listen to an old man's rambling. This place makes me more melancholy than I realized.

That's... that's him, isn't it? Kierean... thought of him as a son? Was going to adopt him? He'd had... a very different impression of the man's intentions at the time, but it wasn't like Kierean gave him any reason to think that way. It was simply the only frame of reference he had, when it came to dealing with adults.

There's a brutal pang of guilt, for thinking Kierean would take advantage of him like that. No matter how much he didn't know better. He does now and he feels disgusting, for how much he wants the man even now.

...But he's just been shown vulnerability. He can't fuck this up.]

... You have my condolences, sir. He would have been very lucky, to have a father like you.

[There's a soft look to Keirean's stoic face and he gently pats Kamukura's shoulder.]

[Hopefully something less sad! He feels a bit bad dumping all that on a sick and injured young man who has nothing to do with it. Maybe he really is getting old.]

[his arm twitches, like he wants to grab for him again, but he resists the urge.]

[He glances at the clock.]

Almost twelve hours. You had me a bit worried. Are you hungry?
